Amazon are Set to Invest in Second Irish Wind Farm
Amazon has announce that it is set to invest in a second win energy project in Ireland. The wind farm will be based in County Cork and will provide 23.2MW of renewable capacity, generating 68,000MW hours of clean energy annually.
Amazon’s first Irish wind energy project, in Meenbog, County Donegal, was announced back in March and is now being developed by Invis Energy.
The electricity that is generated by the win farms will be used to supply the company’s Amazon Web Services data centre in Ireland, which provide cloud based services business all over the world. (For your chance to meet AWS, register today to attend DataCentres Ireland 19).
“Major investments in renewable energy are a critical step to address our carbon footprint globally. We will continue to invest in these projects, and look forward to additional investments this year and beyond”. said Kara Hurst, Director of Sustainability, Amazon.
Richard Bruton the Minister of Communications, Climate Action and Environment said “This project is another example of AWS’s commitment to renewable projects imn Ireland, adding clean energy to the grid, and supporting Ireland’s climate commitments”.
The construction of this project is set to begin later this year and the wind farm is expected to being contributing to Ireland’s renewable energy capacity by 2020.
